A Little About Us Thank you for visiting our site. I’d like to tell you a little about us and our Goldens. We're very sorry to announce that we will not be doing any breeding for the next few years. Our beautiful Annie had pyometriosis and had to have an emergency spay in May 2007. We're very grateful this was an open infection so we were able to catch it right away and save her life. She's doing great now. Healthy and happy and I'm sure she won't miss those bothersome heats either! Enjoy our website. We'll keep it updated with pictures and comments from Nikka and Annie's pups and hopefully in the future, we'll have another beautiful little girl ready to bring pups into the world. We live within walking distance of Lake Superior. This is an area rich in outdoor activities and beautiful scenery. One thing our family really enjoys, is camping. It’s quite a sight when we go camping with all four of our Golden’s. Inevitably, word gets around and everyone wants to stop by and see the dogs. Of course, our Golden’s are more than happy to show off and get even more attention. They never seem to get enough! We came into the world of Golden Retrievers in 1995 with our Nikka. We were looking for a breed that would fit into our home where I run a family daycare. I’ve had dogs all my life, and my parents raised Samoyed’s at one time, then Basenji’s, but this was our first Golden. We did a lot of research and had hopes for a wonderful pet. Nikka exceeded our expectations. She was the dog you dream about all your life and never thought you could have, but there she was! I can’t imagine having any other breed ever again. She did wonderfully in obedience class and although I had trained dogs before, I had never thought to compete until Nikka. Everyone at class loved her. Our instructor, who had been a Golden breeder for over 25 years, suggested that we not spay her as was our original plan. Many people became interested in puppies if we ever had a litter and that is how it all started. Nikka went on the get her CDX in record time and although we never did conformation, I’m sure she would have done well if I had wanted to pursue that venue. It’s just something I haven’t had an interest in. Nikka’s first litter was an emergency Cesarean Section because she was having 12 very large pups for a small girl and she had no room left for contractions. Unfortunately, we did lose the last three pups from that litter, but the rest remained healthy and wonderful. Every pup in that litter was spoken for before they were even born. The pups were raised right here in our home, where they received all the socialization, love and attention they needed. You can read some comments from their owners in our fan mail page. We even kept two males from that litter. It was such a success, that Nikka had a second litter two years later. In that litter, there were only eight pups and Nikka was able to successfully deliver them on her own. Again, all pups were spoken for before they were born. We kept Annie from that litter. She’s my sweetheart. Now it’s Annie’s turn to be "Mom". My breeding program is limited to only one carefully planned litter every few years with an emphasis placed on sound temperament, health and personality. Most of my pups go to family homes, but several are involved in various dog sports. Our puppies are raised in our home where they are loved, receive individual and group socialization and each pup is carefully evaluated for the best possible placement in their new homes. I also carefully screen and interview potential owners of my pups. The new owners must be serious about the commitment needed to bring a new family member into their homes. These need to be primarily house pets living in their homes with their people. Goldens live an average of 12 to 15 years and love being around people. They get sad and depressed if left alone a lot. They need to be a member of the family. We hope you’ll take some time and go through the rest of the website. Feel free to call or fill out the puppy questionnaire and send that back to us if you’re interested in Annie’s upcoming litter. Thank You |
